Do these thing basically do the same thing?
I know the J&S senses knock and retards, and also adjusts the timing curve, but would I be better off just doing a BTC that is remapped for a JRSC acura? Obviously the J&S is better, but I am building a budget racer, and want to get away with stuff where I can, but still do things right by preventing me from blowing stuff on the engine.
Also, what is the purpose of the dial on the BTC. Is it most just a set it and leave piece, and only adjust when racing, or what?

The way that I look at this situation is like this. I beat the living sh@t out of my car. It has had the charger on it for 60,000 miles at all sorts of different boost levels and Mods. The J&S is like an insurance policy. In my opinion It is alot cheaper to buy the J&S rather than a new engine. Another way to look at it is J&S $500, new forged pistons and a head gasket $600. you be the judge

Oh my I forgot the initial question. Yes the JR BTC is just that a Boost timing controler. The J&S is a boost timing controler, reactive knock retard and also has a feature for added fuel to prevent tip in detionation. Hope this helps!!!!
Anyone else???

The only time I would adjust the BTC is if you dramatically increase the octane of the gas you are using.
I just have the MAP controller and BTC with my jrsc and it runs great, but I'm only running 8-9 psi. Of course, be sure you have the proper fuel pump and/or injectors to supply enough fuel.
